Recap: The Headline Makers

To a ballroom full of NAIOP members and guests, Tony Barranco, Bill Katter, and Tom Shaver provided insights on three active, high-profile and large-scale area developments. Murray Kornberg of Dougherty Funding moderated the discussion on how the project teams are collecting input and utilizing partnerships to address market needs with housing, communities, jobs, services, transportation and more.

Tony Barranco, Senior Vice President of Real Estate Development at Ryan Companies, detailed Saint Paul’s Ford Site, the 122-acre development situated along the Mississippi River. The site’s vision is a connected, livable, mixed-use neighborhood with clean technologies and high-quality design for energy, buildings and infrastructure. The redeveloped site will support walking, biking and transit, and provide services, jobs and activities.

Bill Katter, President and Chief Investment Officer at United Properties, detailed the Gateway to Minneapolis as work gets underway downtown at Third Street and Nicollet Avenue. This 34-story, mixed-use project will anchor Nicollet Mall’s north end. Bill covered bringing in the Twin Cities' first 5-star hotel, along with next generation Class A office space and private residences.

Tom Shaver, Partner at Inland Development Partners, detailed the 426-acre Rice Creek Commons plan, at the intersection of I-35W and Highway 10. Its elements include a 46-acre commercial campus, 20 acres of mixed-use retail, 20 acres of office space and 73 acres of flex business space. Rice Creek Commons will feature three new residential neighborhoods, housing, trails, green space and pedestrian-friendly streets.
