Annual University Real Estate Challenge

Founded in 2003, the annual University Challenge is a highlight event for NAIOP Minnesota.

Student teams from regional universities are charged with pitching a deal to potential investors that involves the most profitable yet feasible project that maximizes value while achieving the highest risk adjusted return. The teams are asked to address a development plan, construction timeline, budget, pro-forma, leasing plan and schedule, financing plan and market analysis.

Fall 2018: Planning Begins

The University Challenge Committee forms. Members will confirm each school's participation and solicit ideas for a project site.

February 2019: Sponsor Solicitation Begins

University Challenge Committee members will reach out to past and prospective sponsors.

Thursday, April 11: Event — Cancelled*

University teams will present their proposals to the judging panel early that afternoon. The top three finalists will then present to the NAIOP Minnesota audience.

*NAIOP had to cancel this event due to travel conditions during the April snowstorm. The universities put a lot of work into designing their proposals and presentations. NAIOP will be discussing possibilities on how to utilize the great efforts of the student teams.
