William P. Katter Receives NAIOP Minnesota’s 2022 President’s Award

Bill KatterNAIOP Minnesota is proud to recognize William P. Katter with its 2022 President’s Award, NAIOP’s highest individual honor. The winner is selected from a field of candidates nominated by members. The award recognizes outstanding service to the commercial real estate industry and salutes service to NAIOP and to the community.

“Bill is one the most intelligent professionals in the industry. I’m impressed with his aptitude to quickly assess developments and determine value. Most importantly, Bill is a great leader with an incredible ability to build meaningful relationships,” said NAIOP President Ryan Bartley, senior vice president - market officer, Link Logistics Real Estate.

Bill is currently President and Development Chief Investment Officer of United Properties Development. While he did not start his career as a developer, it was his “drive and desire to compete and win business” that got him recruited into his first development job at United Properties nearly 20 years ago. During this time, he has made a significant impact on Twin Cities and Denver commercial real estate with responsibility for the purchase and/or development of more than six million square feet of office and industrial space for the company.

Bill and United Properties’ most recent success, the RBC Gateway, is a 37-story tower that sits on a key block linking the downtown Minneapolis core with the North Loop neighborhood and the Mississippi River. Additional notable projects developed by Bill and United Properties include:

  • Development of the C.H. Robinson corporate campus in Eden Prairie
  • Acquisition of Plymouth Ponds Business Park
  • Development of the LEED Gold 8200 Tower of Normandale Lake Office Park
  • Adaptive re-use of both 505 and 655 Nicollet Mall properties
  • Renovation of the Ford Center and Loose Wiles historic buildings
  • Development of the Be The Match headquarters in downtown Minneapolis

A NAIOP member for nearly 30 years, Bill has been generous in sharing his knowledge by speaking at numerous NAIOP programs. He has also volunteered as a mentor and helped many new professionals build their networks and industry connections. Bartley emphasized NAIOP’s appreciation for the partnership Bill and his team have provided to the organization over the years.
