A Closer Look: Fort Snelling Upper Post
Join fellow NAIOP members for a walking tour of the revitalization of the historic Fort Snelling Upper Post former training facility, used to prepare soldiers for war. It was an active military base up until WWII. It was turned over to the DNR in 1973 and its buildings have been sitting virtually empty for many years. Dominium purchased the property around 2016 and began a process of converting these 26 historic buildings into affordable housing with preference given to veterans.
John Stark of BKV Group will lead the tour and walk through the project architecture. He will focus on the process of documenting and salvaging these abandoned buildings, bringing them to meet current building code requirements, as well as stabilizing deteriorating structural systems in order to revitalize the Upper Post to recapture the history of this military installment.
Closed toe shoes and long pants are required on site. Everyone is encouraged to bring hard hats, safety vests, and goggles. These items will be provided if you do not have your own. A waiver will be required to be signed just prior to the tour.
